This coming Saturday, May 15, starting at 8:00am
the N.W.E.S.S. Club will be having a training day at the St. Lewis Ponds
in Woodburn, Oregon.
We will be running braces in the morning with the more experienced trial
dogs. We will run at least two braces with each dog. This will not be a
judged event, however judges will be carrying clip boards, giving
instructions, tapping to send and offering feedback to the handlers. The
judges will pass their clip board off to another experienced judge so
that everyone is able to run their own dogs and help out with shooting
assignments. We will also have a marshal carrying a radio and talking to
handlers just like an actual trial situation. Those not running a dog
will follow along in the gallery just behind the marshal asking
questions of the club member assigned to be in the gallery with you
answering questions explaining etc.
After the first series we will run steady or unsteady dogs individually.
This will simulate actual hunt test training, puppy stake training, or
hunting dog training. Just as in the the brace work an experienced hunt
test judge, or puppy stake judge will instruct the handlers, tap to send
if necessary and offer feedback. The marshal and gallery will follow
along. The second series of the brace trial will run, followed by the
second series of the individual event.
During our lunch break Bob Bullard will show us how to put together a
first aid kit to carry in our hunting vest during hunting season. Bob
will also give us a brief follow up on his recent class on steadying.
Lunch with dessert will be available for $6.00, along with water or pop.
Lunch will consist of a meat tray, bread and all the condiments.
After lunch we will set up an actual hunt dead with a water test to
follow. Again we will have judges giving instructions, tapping to send,
offering feedback etc. Depending on time restraints we will try to
help individuals with training or handling issues as well. We are
hopeful that this new format will encourage everyone whether you are a
hunter, hunt tester, field trialer, or a new member of the club with
your first dog, looking for a great pup, have training questions, or are
just curious about the club
Come join us. you'll have a great time. Promise.
